Ein Ende September 2016 eingereichter parlamentarischer Vorstoss möchte die Bewilligungspflicht für ausländische Redner wiedereinführen, wie sie zwischen 1948 und 1998 in Kraft war. Der damalige Bundesratsbeschluss sah vor, dass «Ausländer [...] an Versammlungen nur mit besonderer Bewilligung über ein politisches Thema reden [dürfen]».
It was one of the greats of world politics who passed away on January 24th 1965, at the age of 90. Around the globe, the British war-time prime minister was commemorated, likewise in Switzerland: «Radio, television, and the press of our country have expressed the feeling of vivid gratitude of the whole of Switzerland to the deceased».
In spring 1946, a high-ranking Swiss delegation visited Washington to negotiate the release of frozen Swiss assets in the USA as well as the end of the allied boycott of companies that, during WWII, had traded with the Axis Powers. In turn, the USA, Great Britain, and France demanded that Swiss banks hand over German assets. The Washington Agreement (dodis.ch/1725), finalised 70 years ago, on 25 May 1946, after difficult negotiations, represents a milestone in Swiss foreign policy.

The Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland (DDS) have analysed the question of Palestinian terrorism against targets in Switzerland in 1969/70 and its consequences as part of their regular research during the last few years. Consequently, numerous documents have been published in the database Dodis since 2012 (cf. A Guide to the «Years of Terror»).
On 18 March 1946, an exchange of diplomatic notes in Belgrade (dodis.ch/48190) broke a silence that had lasted almost thirty years, establishing official relations between Switzerland and the Soviet Union. The normalization of relations with the new eastern superpower was one of the fundamental conditions for the development of Switzerland's international relations in the commencing Cold War.
Die Forschungsstelle der Diplomatischen Dokumente der Schweiz hat im Rahmen ihrer wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchsförderung zum Learn Dodis Day 2016 eingeladen. Die Veranstaltung richtete sich in erster Linie an Studierende der Geschichte, war aber auch der interessierten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Die Teilnahme befähigt dazu, selbständige Recherchen in der Datenbank durchzuführen.
For some weeks now, there have been speculations in the media regarding Palestinian terror in Switzerland in 1970. The diplomatic documents on Dodis can contribute to rendering this debate more objective. In order to facilitate access to their resources for a broader audience, the DDS have adjusted their research tools specifically with regard to this issue.
